ESTELLE MEY
Breath | Drone | Pulse
Voice woven through hurdy-gurdy threads and drum pulse.
Rooted in neo-folk, carrying punk intensity and subtle electronic sparks.

The music of Estelle Mey belongs to the earth, gathered from the landscapes that have shaped her journey. Her roots lie in the Ardèche, a territory of ancient mountains, Celtic tracks and Palaeolithic caves that carry some of humanity’s oldest stories.
However, It was in Iceland, among its wild lands and communities, that she first found her musical voice, absorbing a Norse imprint that still runs through everything she makes. Later, the British punk and metal scene forged a raw intensity into her performance.
Today, what emerges sits somewhere older than any single influence.
Drawing on ancient languages, Gaulish inscriptions and early medieval lyric, her sound is built on the hypnotic drone of her hurdy-gurdy, the primal pulse of percussion and layered vocal harmonies using throat singing as rhythm. She fractures these ancient foundations with modern electronics, routing living plant signals into synth textures and fueling the stage with a lingering punk fire.
It is a striking collision of primal trances and contemporary noise, an approach York Calling described as "passionate and mesmerising."
Before this, Estelle spent over a decade in heavier music, earning airplay on BBC Radio 1, Planet Rock, and Radio X and performing at European festivals to crowds of over 27,000.
That energy never disappeared; it simply found older ground.
Her short videos showing her neo folk work - such as the interpretation of The Last Kingdom vocal on hurdy-gurdy to her own creations with Gaulish chants recorded in the woods with a drum have reached over 60,000 views online.
Estelle recently played at Faerie Fest alongside Damh the Bard and Touch the Earth and plans to release her next album, performing it both solo or with a small group.
"Part an echo of ancient woodlands, part the roar of the industrial landscape, it is a song out of time, something set apart from any music chronology you might be familiar with." — The Big Takeover Magazine

'' Like the cry of the first woman, the call of the wild, and the howling at the moon, “Snake” goes beyond being merely music and instead seems to talk to that primeval part of us that the modern world never quite tamed.''
